The Remarkable Health Benefits of Seaweed and What You Need to Know

I could not have said better about the benefits of seaweed than this powerful summary by @hminutritionschool #repost www.hminutrition.com

In the next post, I will share what types of seaweed I always stock up with. Well, it’s pretty much every single one except the Irish moss or Sea moss that got so much hype out there. If you dig deeper, you’ll find out that carrageenan, the most toxic food additive that ruins your hormones, causes IBS, and other inflammatory diseases is made from that same sea moss.

“Incorporating seaweed into your daily diet is one of the best things you can do for your health. It may take some getting used to in some cultures, although other cultures have been eating seaweed forever. Here are the top benefits:

1. CANCER PREVENTION:
Seaweeds contain lignans, which inhibit blood cell growth (the process through which fast-growing tumors gain extra nourishment and cause metastases in other areas of the body).

Lignans also inhibit estrogen synthesis in fat cells as effectively as some of the drugs used in cancer chemotherapy.

Seaweed is also a great source of B-vitamin folic acid. Studies have shown that diets high in folate-rich foods are associated with a significantly reduced risk for colon cancer.

2. THYROID HEALTH:
Seaweed is nature's richest source of iodine, which is a component of the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), - both of which are essential to human life.

3. PREVENTS BIRTH DEFECTS:
Folic acid in sea vegetables can prevent certain birth defects, including spina bifida.

4. PREVENT HEART DISEASE:
Sea vegetables are also a great source of magnesium, which has been shown to reduce high blood pressure and prevent heart attacks.

5. STRESS RELIEF:
Seaweed also provides stress relief by supplying magnesium as well as pantothenic acid and riboflavin--two B vitamins necessary for energy production. Pantothenic acid is especially important for the health of the adrenal glands. When supplies of pantothenic acid are inadequate, stress can exhaust the adrenals resulting in chronic fatigue, reduced resistance to allergies and infection, and a feeling of being overwhelmed or overly anxious”
