Exploring the Delightful World of Seaweed Snacks and Staples
I love seaweed! It’s one of my favorite snacks.
One of my pantry staples and I always make sure I have several types of seaweed in my kitchen:
RAW ORGANIC NOT TOASTED NORI SHEETS
I only found these on Amazon and since I use them a lot, I buy a large pack of 50 sheets. Best value too compared to 5-10 sheets only sold in major stores.
Anything wrapped in Nori sheets just tastes better to me.
My all times favorite breakfast all day is a tofu sushi sandwich wrapped in nori sheets.
Also great to cut into small strips and add to your miso soup and salads.
DULSE
I like the one that comes in small bite sizes, as it’s a great snack. Sold in Whole Foods too and great to add to soups.
DULSE FLAKES
I love these and use them a lot. It’s great to add to your salads instead of salt and on any steamed veggies. It gives that mild salty flavor and is full of health benefits.
KOMBU STRIPS
Amazing to add to any of your soups to bring out the umami flavor. Also when cooking beans add a strip of kombu to the pot as it will help the beans to become more digestible and will make you less gassy from eating beans.
KELP STRIPS
Similar to kombu is an umami-rich flavor that can be a base for a dashi broth, a traditional Japanese umami soup base.
KELP GRANULES
It’s just bigger kelp strips grinned in smaller flakes. Also great topping to any salad or meal. To me personally, it has a more prominent “fishy” flavor so I add them sporadically when suitable
WAKAME
Awesome dried seaweed that will expand a lot when soaked in water. I love adding to salads. You just need a tiny bit to soak in water and in less than 3 minutes they will plummet and expand 5 x more
